Sur-Seal Gasket and Packing Co has officially changed it's name to Sur-Seal Corporation. The name change reflects the evolution of the company from a maintenance gasket manufacturer to a leading supplier of solutions in rubber and plastic to OEM's around the globe.

Putting the Pieces Together at Sur-Seal and Acuity Brands

When Mark Preston joined the Acuity Brands Lighting team, the company was a lot less agile and just starting a lean manufacturing strategy throughout the entire company. Acuity is the largest lighting company in North America. But it didn’t come easy….

Preston began working on kaizen at TDK where he was mentored by 5 Japanese sensei over his eleven years there. He traveled to Japan for TDK lean leadership training more than 20 times, then furthered his knowledge at Respironics by learning Demand Flow Technology. Armed with these learnings and experience Preston led the transformation of the Kennesaw, Georgia Respironics plant, still one of the leanest operations producing oxygen concentrators today. Preston moved his experience into the supply base at a Maryland supplier called Action Products with management consultant Patricia Moody and Honda veteran Dave Curry, adapting the Honda 13-week BP program (Powered by Honda, Nelson, Mayo and Moody) into a repeatable supplier development process.

1/5/2011 Sur-Seal® adds acquires new 2D Cutter

Sur-Seal® recently expanded its capabilities with a new ATOM Flashcut model HD30155 dieless knife cutting system. The model is said to be one of the latest developments for cutting materials up to 100mm. The model offers new state-of-the-art features including overhead digital projectors which allow the operator to see the part outline before any cuts have been made.

Material: Unlimited range of non-metallic materials. Capable of processing wide range of rubber, plastics and composite gasket materials. Tang graphite with one or two layers of steel, asbestos free up too 6mm thick.

Even complicated foam designs and many thick materials can be completed quickly compared to doing the job manually.

Work Area: 61” x 121”

Work area is capable of producing large single-segment parts.

File Requirement: DXF

Load-Time: Depending on material availability, often same day. Laser Inspection: An advanced, 2D-laser quality inspection solution for first article inspection.

Statistical Process Control & reverse engineering of 2D materials. In seconds the scanned part can be automatically compared to the corresponding DCAD file with any variances outside pre-set tolerances.
